Product Description
Whether setting up house for the first time or looking to add versatility to an already busy kitchen, this 11-piece mixing system provides exceptional convenience. The set includes a powerful 350-watt motor base, one chopping blade base, one ice-crushing blade base, two 24-ounce heavy-duty plastic travel mugs, 12-ounce and 18-ounce plastic blending containers, two leak-proof closable sipping lids, and two comfort-fit drinking rims. With its small footprint, the compact unit takes up minimal space on the counter, yet it replaces a food processor, blender, and coffee grinder. Use it to grind fresh coffee beans or to make homemade salsa, salad dressings, milk shakes, and more. Simply add ingredients to one of the two blending containers, connect the container to the power base, and turn the dial from “low” to “high” speed or to the “pulse” setting to set the blades spinning. Even more, the containers feature durable see-through construction, which makes it easy to keep an eye on the consistency and to identify contents at a glance when stored in the refrigerator. A user manual with recipes comes included. Quick to assemble and easy to clean, the mixing system, with its sleek brushed-chrome exterior, measures approximately 6 by 5-1/2 by 13-1/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Prior to purchase I read everything I could find on the Blender Express Plus, Bullet & Tribest Personal Blender. I purchased the Blender Express primarily for the size of the travel cups and the price. Bullet was slightly more (at the time) and the Tribest was approx. twice as much. VERY pleased with purchase. A friend has the Bullet so I was able to compare the actual blade assemblies. To be honest they look identical – specifically the sharpness of the blades – size of blades – could have come from the same factory (may have!)! Quality of blending seems to also be pretty identical. My “smoothie”/”juice” consists of anywhere from 5-20 different fruits/veggies at a time with very little frozen. I don’t use ice at all, just the frozen berries, etc that are added, so I’m not able to review its’ ability to crush the ice. Clear markings on the cups for adding liquids. Easy to use – no “push to blend” like the bullet – everything is worked from the dial, from quick pulse to low or high settings.
My only negative – once you tighten the blade assembly on the cup, it’s actually a little tough to remove. Needs to be tight so no leakage. ‘ve found that a rubber/textured gripper to open comes in handy.
I’ve used it almost everyday for about a month now and haven’t encountered any problems. If I try to stuff it too full, it does balk a little when I first pulse (according to instructions), but a little shake of the cup/jar is all it has taken to move the ingredients around for blending.

Very Handy,
It’s funny, the different experiences people have with the same products. Now, this review is for the Blender Express, not the “Plus.” The only difference is the attachments. My wife picked up a couple of these at Wally World after Christmas (2005). They were in a clearance cart for [...] each. I figured that they were probably pretty cheap and I’d have a backup after I burned the first one up. Well, a little over a year later, I’m still using the first one. I use it 3-4 times a week for smoothies and frozen coffee drinks. I have to say that I really abuse the little guy. My coffee drinks call for half of the mug to be filled with crushed ice.
It will make these drinks with a minimum of “crunchy” ice particles and they are quite enjoyable. I never expected it to last this long because, truthfully, from day one, I have been able to notice the “burned wire” odor coming from the unit as I continuosly overload the mug. Yet, it is still chugging along. Even at the full price, a year of this type of useage certainly makes it a good value. And, cleanup is extremely easy and the “make it and run” mug is really handy. Of course, for larger quantities, I fall back on the larger blender. If I ever do wear out both of these units, I would not hesitate to purchase another.
UPDATE: 7/10/2009
Just wanted to add this note. Two and a half years after the above review (makes the unit three-odd years old), we’re still using it!!! It still makes the smoothest frozen drinks. I guess we really got lucky with this one. I can’t even remember where we put the second one!

|simply the best blender to go,
I have been using the Back to Basics Blender for about a month now. Previously, I own the Magic Bullet as well as the Shake and Taken blender.
Magic Bullet did not last after 2 months. The gear got stripped out. Shake and Take is still working but the container is long and hard to clean.
I really like the 24oz container of the Back to Bacics Blender. It is easy to clean. This is really THE BEST ONE on the market right now and the price is quite inexpensive.

|Risky, but there’s a griefless alternative.,
I purchased this Blender Express from an Amazon vendor, it went completely dead after a single use, and the vendor was as non-responsive as the product. I called the Back to Basics company (in Utah, I believe), and they said return it and we’ll send you a new one. It arrived promptly and has been doing the job (smoothies with ice cubes) for about a month now. So 3 stars after an initial 0 star experience with the first one.
Because of the problem with the first one and my impatience for a quick fix, I ordered the small Hamilton Beach personal blender, priced between fifteen and twenty bucks. It’s a nifty item–quick, easy to set up, more convenient, practical, dependable, and far less messy than the Blender Express. Hard to believe, because it looks cheap, flimsy and lightweight.
Aside from concerns about durability, the Blender Express suffers from a design problem. You’ve got to screw the container in upsidedown, which means: 1. Powder or anything sticking to the bottom of the container is now on the top of the container and won’t be blended; 2. When you’re finished with the blending, you have to unscrew it from the base, turn it right-side-up, and replace the base+blade with the screw-on cover for drinking purposes, which invariably results in some overflow and spillage due to the expansion of contents. Wipe it off, but there’s still stuff dripping from the container, guaranteed to make a mess on you and your car.
Get yourself the elegantly simple, efficient, quick and clean Hamilton Beach personal blender. Heck, if it fails in a year, it’s still worth the fifteen or twenty bucks.

My old blender died and I purchased this one to replace it since I mostly just make smoothies. I’m very happy with it. It makes about the same about of noice as a normal blender which I expected. I really love the fact that I can make one drink and then leave. Perfect for what I wanted it for and clean up is a snap!
I originally ordered this item because I was going to have jaw surgery out of the state and needed to be on a liquid diet. I already owned several blenders, but needed one I could easily bring with me. The over reviews I saw on Amazon led me to believe that this product would be a good choice. It is an attractive unit with many useful options. It worked perfectly while I was out of the state for 2 weeks making smoothies and protein powder shakes. About a week after returning home, I was making a fruit smoothie and it suddenly just stopped. No smoke or weird smells or unusual noises or slowing down. It just stopped. I tried different plugs and any thing else I could think of. I immediately wrote the company through their customer service email and got a response in less than 24 hours that they were going to fed ex me a new one. Less than a week later I not only had a new blender base, but they had also included a new mixing jar / cylinder and travel top. The new base works perfectly. Things break, but the immediate no hassle service and response makes all the difference. I would highly recommend this product (unless the new one also quickly dies (then it could be a hassle – but I will be sure to up date the review if this is the case).
